iPhone 14 Pro Users Experience CarPlay Phone Call Issues

Following the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last week, some early adopters of the devices said they encountered an issue that prevents them from being heard at an appropriate volume during phone calls initiated in a vehicle via CarPlay.

Affected users have documented this issue on the MacRumors forums, Reddit, Twitter, and the Apple Support Community in the past three to four days. Most users said that after calling someone via CarPlay with an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, their voice sounded soft or distant on the receiving end of the call.

Most of the complaints come from users with an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max running iOS 16.0.1, but at least one user said the issue seems to affect the stock iPhone 14 as well, and there are also comments claiming that downgrading to iOS 16.0 does. no help.

MacRumors was able to reproduce the issue by calling via wired CarPlay in a 2022 Honda Civic with an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 16.0.1. The problem did not occur with a regular hands-free Bluetooth call with the same device in the vehicle.

It’s unclear what caused the problem or how many users are affected by it, but it appears to be another bug affecting the iPhone 14 models. Apple is already planning to release an iOS 16 update next week with fixes for rear camera issues on iPhone 14 Pro models that vibrate uncontrollably in certain apps, iPhone 14 Pro models that freeze after transferring data from another iPhone and excessive copying and pasting.

We’ve reached out to Apple to see if it’s aware of this issue, but the company didn’t immediately respond to our request for comment. We will share additional information about this issue, including any responses from Apple, as they become available.
