a single-family home that can be transformed

Supra-Simplicities designed a modular home unit that can be adapted to the needs of the user. This flexible house design shows a spaceless structure system based on an internal infrastructural rail grid. The idea arose in an effort to create a space that embraces and maximizes the flexibility and movability of home life. ‘Everything on track’ is the design proposal that won 1st prize in the second edition of Buildner’s Modular Home competition.

rail infrastructure for an interchangeable interior

The proposed built space is designed to be multifunctional, internally adjustable and interchangeable over time to meet the changing needs of the occupant, due to social or environmental events. In order to maintain the dynamics of the space in the modular house, a sophisticated rail system is introduced by the design group. The track and carrier allow for easy systematic operation and directional flexibility. All elements, objects and furniture for living are fixed with operable wheels and can be moved along the plan of the house. The cross-shaped intersection gives the residents the freedom to move all household furniture and operable partitions effectively through 2 perpendicular axes, increasing the versatility of the interior space. The tracks act as internal infrastructural grids in the house, as well as on the roof and under the floor for those supporting units such as roof panels, rainwater collector, photovoltaic panels, water supply and septic tank, etc.

a roomless and multifunctional open space

This house was deliberately designed ‘roomless’. Inside, there is no static accumulation of rooms, but the plan forms a dynamic open zone full of adjustable housing units. There is no bedroom, no dining room, no living room or fixed space for a specific household function, just a modular open space occupying every use for a versatile and customized living experience. The flexible open space allows users to define its features and functions. Based on the user’s preference, the overall interior configuration can be easily personalized. A wide variety of possible arrangements of furniture, objects and partitions, moving along the rail system, provide an almost infinite spatial experience and living quality.
